cleaning perspective

I finally got around to some more house cleaning/sorting through stuff. This time I’m tackling my guest room/home office that masquerades as a walk in closet and junk room. One good thing about waiting months to sort through your personal papers - you wonder why on earth you thought they were important and are much more likely to put them into the recycling bag rather than the to deal with box.

Same too with clothes. I’d sorted through some clothes months ago that I intended to give away. They’ve been sitting in my closet in a bag for months. A friend told me of her method for giving away clothes. She puts them in a bag and waits a month. Then, if she can’t remember what’s in the bag without opening it, she gives it away without another thought. This is a good method I think.

One other tidbit. I went to Target yesterday to buy some bath towels - mine had seen better days. When I left 45 minutes later, that’s all I bought! And it wasn’t even a sacrifice - I’d picked things up, a cute t-shirt, a book, other assorted items, and put them down. I really didn’t need them an honestly decided they weren’t worth it. Such progress ... I guess that’s what two years of involuntary simplicity will do for you! Nothing like being motivated to get out of debt to change your habits.

Hope you all have had a pleasant weekend as well.
Peace Out
Susan

good for you :)

I cleaned our closet on new year's day. 11 bags of stuff went to the charity shop :) It was a GREAT way to start the new year, and long overdue.

now in the summer hols my daughter and I tackled the junk room. 6 more bags went the same way, as well as a couple of bags of nice kiddie stuff to people in church. We can now see the floor and it's a relief.

I'd like to do the same in the kitchen later this autumn. There are a lot of things we NEVER use. I think others could benefit from them , that's one incentive for spring cleaning whatever time of the year :)

Be blessed!

Moving out "on mission" has given a slight incentive to de-clutter (my mom trained me well in the school of "But you might..."). What I didn't realize is that moving IN provides even more incentive -- b/c then you have to find a home for everything!
