daily life

I was talking with someone on the phone this weekend, catching up on life, but she could tell that I was distracted. You see, I'd realized earlier in the day that my ATM card wasn't where it was supposed to be. So, I shared the fact that I'd looked all over my room - not to mention every pocket of every coat and pair of pants, looking for said ATM card to no avail.

"Hmmm....," she said. "This is going to sound stupid, but that kind of surprises me."

"What surprises you?," I asked.

"Well, I would have thought with your close relationship with God and everything that you wouldn't be stressed out. That you could turn it over to God or something."
Maybe someday I'll be that holy, but the Susan that I am today was a wee bit annoyed and a tiny bit stressed out that she couldn't find the card. I did say a quick prayer to St Anthony, but I still haven't found the ATM card. I did manage to call the bank and put a stop on the card. They're going to send me a new one, and the old one has not been used since the last time I used it back in October. That's what I was really worried about.

One really cool thing about the vow of poverty is that I have much less money stress than I used to have. Yes I'm living simply, but in the grand scheme of things I know that everything I need will be paid for, and even some of what I want. Everything in moderation as the saying goes. But this is the modern - or I suppose more accurately post-modern -- world, and money needs to be accounted for and moved around, even with a vow of poverty. Hence, my personal allowance is directly deposited into my bank account each month and I use an ATM card to withdraw the money as needed. The downside to that, of course, is that said ATM card can be misplaced!

I just know I'm going to find it AFTER the new card comes in the mail.

Susan,

Isn't that always the way - your "missing" card magically reappears just before the new one arrives!!

In my previous life as a Telephone Service Rep at a bank, the most frequent call after a card had been reported lost or stolen was "I've just found it - and I need to get some cash out - can I still use it?"

Unfortunately, the answer was always "No" and the result was very unhappy people!

My 18-year-old daughter called me in a panic this morning; she had lost her ATM card too. Since the banks were closed for Veteran's Day, she needed an 800 number to cancel the card, and of course called me, because she figured I could find *anything* on the computer. I did, and it was all taken care of swiftly. She probably lost it at work; she has a bad habit of putting it in her back pocket. Maybe this will break her of it.

Just thought I'd share.

Peace :)

Check between the center console and the driver's seat of the car. That's where I usually find things that I've lost, and in one instance, my ATM card! BTW, I love your blog! God Bless, and isn't it wonderful we can just call up and cancel the card in seconds and the replacement is on its way the next day!
