Today was a BUSY day!!! More than 200 Catholics gathered at the State Capitol in Olympia to advocate for legislation on behalf of people who are poor and vulnerable. First off was a legislative briefing, where we learned about pending legislation in the areas of health care, environment, housing and economic justice. We also heard some first hand accounts from people most impacted by the looming budget cuts to human services. Then we all split up into delegations by district and met with our State Senator and Representatives. On top of all that, I was trying to take some video footage so we can tell the story of Advocacy Day. Once that's ready I'll be sure to post a link. All in all a very inspiring (and tiring day)!
Tonight was our extended community gathering here at Grace House, except of course that Sr. Andrea is already on her way to Haiti. Jane, one of the CSJP lay Associates that we are "graced" to have as part of our Grace House extended community, is headed to El Salvador on Saturday to be part of the PazSalud Health mission. (Visit the other blogging Sr. Susan's blog to read about her preparations for the health mission!). We always finish our community night evenings with prayer, so tonight we blessed Jane as she prepares to spend 10 days ministering to the people of El Salvador. I know that she will have an amazing experience and be a blessing to the people she meets.
So many comings and goings. So much work that needs to be done, so much to pray for. How wonderful to engage all of this as part of a religious community!
