September Anniversaries

Today is the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, aka Mary's Birthday. Four years ago today, I entered the Congregation Novitiate in New Jersey. What a difference four years makes!

We have a new housemate living with us here at Grace House, from a religious community in Vietnam. She will be studying at Seattle U and living with us this year. Her community has a Marian spirituality, and today is their Founding Day and Congregation Feast Day. It's nice to celebrate both the birthday of Mary and the birthday of her Congregation today!

The 9th Anniversary of September 11th is coming up on Saturday. I am so saddened by the fear and hate that seems to be percolating around that day, particularly as regards our Muslim brothers and sisters. I also find hope, however, if the grassroots efforts of tolerance, love and peace that are also growing. More reason to pray on this day to Mary, Queen of Peace, to ask for her guidance and intercession for our broken world.
