Vocation Resources

Are you one of those people who keep having those persistent crazy thoughts that maybe, perhaps, someday, you think your life would make more sense if you followed your heart's desire and entered religious life?? I'm sure there's at least one of you out there reading this, probably more. I know that before I ever made the leap into religious life I spent lots of time perusing the blogs and websites of Sisters, Brothers and Priests.

Well, there's no pressure, but I realized it's been a while since I've offered some resources to help you with those crazy thoughts, which are of course wonderfully crazy.

First, my email box is always open. The address is listed in the side bar.

Second, the latest and greatest version of Vision Magazine is out. I've written about vision before, in particular an exercise that's helpful in sorting out all the religious communities listed in the magazine. Think of it as a collected college catalog of religious orders.

Third, check out the new Facebook Page of the Northwest Catholic Sisters, a variety of religious communities located in the Pacific Northwest.

Lastly, why not take the opportunity to visit with some Sisters and see what this thing called religious life is all about? Most religious communities have vocation retreats or come and see events. Here in the Seattle area, there are two events coming up that I know about!

  • December 4th: Advent Retreat Day with the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace at St. Mary-on-the-lake in Bellevue (event flyer)
  • December 11th: Advent Vocation Discernment Day at the University of Washington Newman Center, hosted by several different religious communities of men and women (event flyer)
Lastly, for those of you who don't fit into the category of those discerning a religious vocation, please keep vocations in your prayers.

PS - the picture is from Giving Voice, a network of younger women religious. Yes there are enough of us to have our own organization! Together we are living into God's emerging dreams for religious life. Join us!
