Blessed Elisabeth (1870 - 1957) was born in Sweden but emigrated to the US as a young woman to work as a nurse and send money back home to support her family. She studied nursing in New York and served the sick and aged as a home nurse. She converted to Catholicsm in the US and travelled to Rome to become a Brigittine nun. She sought to revive her order and became known as the "Second bridget." She save the lives of Jews and others persecuted by the Nazis by giving them refuge in Rome.
