Starting the day with Dorothy

If you don't subscribe yet to Daily Dig, do so now. What better way to start your day than with gems like this one from Dorothy Day to greet you in your e-mail box. Talk about perspective…

It is surely an exercise of faith for us to see Christ in each other. But it is through such exercise that we grow and the joy of our vocation assures us we are on the right path. Certainly, it is easier to believe now that the sun warms us, and we know that buds will appear on the trees in the wasteland across the street, that life will spring out of the dull clods of that littered park across the way.

This reminds me of two blog entries I read yesterday. Martha, Martha and Nicole at Seven Mountains both had simple yet profound experiences of seeing Christ in the other yesterday.

i saw the title "starting the day with dorothy" and knew i'd comment immediately based upon providing a link for the daily dig - thank you for that.

but giving me props? i am so not worthy, but thank you. and thank you for your recent comments - i am hopeful that, if elected (she said humbly) to parish council that it will be beneficial for all involved. our parish does NOTHING (for my pew's perspective) other than loaves & fishes for the poor, and the l&f i started up about 7 years ago, we collect non-perishable items for Catholic Social Services. we also give during certain drives, but it isn't enough.

thank you for your encouragement :)

M2 - One of my favorite Dorothy Day quotes (and I'm paraphrasing here) was don't call her a Saint. Because if she's a Saint then that lets the rest of us off the hook. She was just a human being, and so are we, and each of us is capable of great things with through and for God.

That's why I decided to link to the entries on your site & Seven Mountains. Examples in our plebian everyday lives of what Dorothy was talking about. We each of us see Christ in the other, each and every day. But how often are we open to that transformative experience? Transformative for us and transformative for the other. And transformative for our world.

Good luck with your parish and I hope you do run for your parish council.
