Levada to head CDF

Breaking news on NCR - San Francisco Archbishop (and former Archbishop of my own Portland) has been appointed by the Pope to lead the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith.

While I was living in Portland during part of the time he was Archbishop here, I wasn't really a practicing Catholic at the time so I don't know that much about him. Some of the things I've heard about him lead me to not be surprised that Benedict would pick him. Birds of a feather ... on the other hand, John Allen's discussion of him leaves me somewhat hopeful.

Just like with Benedict, we'll have to wait and see. And trust in the Holy Spirit.

It is interesting that an American has been named to such a high level and key post.
