On this day, the early Roman Christians celebrated a feast in honor of their departed loved ones, including their beloved predecessors in the faith, Peter & Paul. When, in the 4th century, the feast of these two saints was moved to June 29th, this day in February focused on celebrating Peter and his successors as bishops of Rome and expressing our gratitude for their service. May we imitate Peter’s love of Jesus and willingness to change his ideas and attitudes to better shepherd Christ’s flock. And so on this Wednesday morning, I remember Peter and all those who followed him in service to God’s church as Bishop of Rome. In particular I remember Pope Benedict XVI, that he may be guided by wisdom and be supported by the love of his brothers and sisters in Christ.
On that note, must go. I smell a burned English muffin! Oh the perils of a morning blogging practice.
