nuns in the news (and some cooking news)

My brother forwarded this article to me, New fervor among young Italian Catholics . The article features 31 year old Sr. Christina:
"I was far from God," she says quietly, wrapping her hands around a hot mug in the monastery's drafty dining hall. "I experimented with everything you can experiment with to find happiness. Now that I've left everything, I've found everything."

Steph (courtesy of Wayward Catholics) we have this tidbit from New York Magazine. The # 1 item in the article 12 Ways to Remake Your Boring Old Self? Becoming a nun!
1. BECOME A NUN If you’re willing to take a vow of poverty, chastity, and obedience, your prayers may be answered in a convent. Some sisters live full time at a convent like the Corpus Christi Monastery in the Bronx, where the eighteen cloistered nuns spend all day praying in “perpetual adoration of the most blessed sacrament.” Brooklyn’s Sisters of Mercy get out more, if only to work in schools, hospitals, women’s shelters, and soup kitchens. Still more adventurous are the Sisters of Saint Francis in Syracuse, who get to go all the way to Hawaii, East Africa, and Peru. You have to be Catholic (though there are Buddhist and Orthodox Christian nuns) and neither married nor divorced (God frowns upon that, though being widowed is okay by Him). Go to religiousministries.com to find the right order for you.
(Number 2 on their list is running for office. I don't recommend that one, at least not if you live in my town because it just creates work for the poor elections office workers! :) ... Or you could wait unti a future election when a certain bureaucrat is safely on her path to #1 on the list!)

And on the home front, my exciting news is that in the last 24 hours I've cooked not 1 but 2 marvellous dishes from Cooking Light Magazine which my sister gave me for Christmas. Taking advantage of the weekend at home to stock the freezer with home cooked meals. Next up ... mini meat loafs baked in muffin tins! Good practice for when I'll be living in community full time next year. I'll have lots of chances to cook.

Mmmmm... Three-Cheese Chicken Penne Florentine! Mine looks almost as good as the picure!

Someone left that issue on the plane last week (pretty much the only magazines I read are ones left behind by other passengers), and my flying partner passed it on to me as she already subscribes.

It looks so good, I can't wait to try a few of the recipes out, especially now that you've recommended it!
