daily life

Natty's posted a link to the common dominican novitiate that her groovy sisters participate in. It paints a wonderful picture of what their cannonical year looks like.

I imagine my own canonical novitiate year will look somewhat similar. But, as I'm part of the first group to be in our own common groovy novitiate, there's unfortunately not a website I can check out to see what my daily life will be like.

I know the main purpose/focus of the year, as explained in our groovy constitutions: "The canonical novitiate, spent in the novitiate house, is a period of intensive prayer and study in relative withdrawal from ministerial involvement. During this time a novice focuses primarily on her transformation in Jesus Christ. The novitiate also includes times of engagement in ministry that will evoke the faith dispositions needed by those sharing in the mission of the church as expressed through our charism." So basically it's like a year long retreat - in the company of friends and guides.

And I know we'll have fun too. But as to what my daily life will look like, I need to wait till September 8th to find out!

It's exciting and challenging to be part of a first group... I imagine the CSJPs will still participate in the Religious Formation Conference intercommunity novitiate program in Ossining NY for the theological "stuff." That, I know through friends from various communities, is a beautiful experience of Church, sharing the experience of being formed in Christ across the beautiful diversity of religious charism and community spirits.

Yes we will spend Tuesday & Wednesdays with the RFC Intercommunity Novitiate. That's the bit I have the most info about.

Oh sure, be all holy about it -- "a year-long retreat" .... you know you wanna call it lockdown! :-)

I had a pretty good idea about the Jesuit novitiate before I entered the Company. Nevertheless, nothing can prepare you for the change from regular life to, as you say, groovy life.

That said, I know it´ll be a great experience for you.

Steph ... trying to be positive about it, don't ya know! Lockdown/retreat. I'm sure it will seem like both at different times & perhaps even at the same time!

Jeffrey ... thanks for that. Makes me feel better about how little I know. And reminds me what it's all about.
