new photo

I've updated my profile photo with one taken earlier today. In case you're wondering what this blogger looks like, this is a fairly accurate picture. What doesn't show up in the photo are all the gray hairs that have cropped up during the Novitiate. (Hmmm ... wonder where those came from??!)

Tuesday marks 6 months since we travelled from Seattle to New Jersey. It's also been just over 6 months since I had my last hair cut. I'm growing it out because a) I don't feel like breaking in a new hair dresser b) it's a way to save money from my precious monthly stipend for things like movies and books and c) who really cares what my hair looks like when I'm spending most of my time in the novitiate? Once I got past the awkward stage, it's actually grown out quite nicely. It has flips and curls that look like I tried to make them happen.

The picture also features my new glasses AND my Peace Cross.

So ends this silly post. Lots of (good and more complicated) unbloggables working through this head. Maybe I'll get some of them down on the screen some day soon.

Great pic! It is always nice to put a face with the words :) I really like your glasses - I'm thinking about that style the next time I need new frames.

Nice picture! You look really happy. I trim my own hair, but I think I need to get it cut well after my hacking.

I guess I do look happy in the picture. It was taken at a community day celebrating the 25th Annivesary of our Associate Program. It's always such a joy to gather with Sisters and Associates that you don't see very often!

One of my grooy sisters that I don't see very often said to me, "I know that Novitiate is hard. It's never been easy. But you really seem to be blooming in spite of it."

Novitiate's NOT easy. I wouldn't say it's something I enjoy. As I'm fond of telling myself, I didn't enter to be a novice. Being a novice is part of entering. But there are learnings and opportunities for growth here, and I am convinced more and more every day that this is where I'm supposed to be.
