random thoughts

It’s almost like spring here today. This being the East Coast, I know winter is not necessarily over - but it was nice to go on a brisk walk this morning with only my sweat shirt for warmth! The sun is out, the sky is blue, and the animals are scurrying around happy to be free from the blanket of snow.

Our house here at the Novitiate is on the grounds of the east coast groovy sisters headquarters. We’re nestled in the midst of the Palisades Interstate Park, right on the Hudson river, in view of the NYC skyline. My walk this morning took in the interesting juxtaposition of nature and the urban landscape. As I walked down to a nearby park, I saw a few wild turkeys, some geese, lots of squirrels, and a variety of birds. I also saw trash, cars whizzing by through the trees on the parkway, and the City that never sleeps off in the distance.

Ok, here’s where the randomness promised in the title comes in. I’m going to skip to some thoughts on today’s Gospel. Jesus is back in Nazareth where he discovers that a prophet is not welcome in his home town. This passage has always stuck with me … Jesus being chased out of town:

They rose up, drove him out of the town,
and led him to the brow of the hill
on which their town had been built,
to hurl him down headlong.

Woah! This is serious. He must have really triggered something inside them that they weren’t ready to hear. What I love most about this passage is how it ends:

But he passed through the midst of them and went away.

Such simplicity. Such peaceful strength. He somehow (I suppose this is where the being God part comes in handy) manages to rise above the mob mentality. He doesn’t confront them, he doesn’t try to justify his right to exist. Rather, he simply passes through their midst and goes on his merry way. There’s a lesson to be learned there I think.

To complete the randomness of this post, just a heads up. Tomorrow I head to our Intercommunity Novitiate Program. We get back Wednesday night, and then I’m heading to Seattle for our West Coast Groovy Sister Province Assembly early Thursday morning. (I can't wait to see all my groovy friends, sisters & associates!) So chances are, I may not be posting between now and this time next week. Who knows, the muse and the opportunity may arise, but perhaps not.

SO, have a good week my bloggy friends. Enjoy the promise of Spring and may you find your own path of peace and integrity through the landmines of your own life.

Hi Sister Susan!
Yes we did have wonderful Jersey weather yesterday!!

About the passage, I still can't fathom somebody wanting to hurl Jesus down a hill. I was watching the Daily Mass on EWTN and the priest was saying during his homily that so many people put Jesus on the edge of their hearts and think about pushing him off and out of their hearts. We have to pray for those people.

Have a safe trip and enjoy your time with your West Coast groovy sisters!
God bless you,
Jodi
