for those keeping track

For those keeping track, I was demoted this morning back to butterer of toast. ;) Really, I'm just happy to help out where and when I can. I'm sure my demotion was no reflection on my lack of math skills! Or my ability to count foreign currency.

After my two hours helping out in various capacities at breakfast, I've been helping clients one on one in the computer training center. One benefit of this is that I now know a few clients enough to chat when I see them a breakfast. I'm starting to feel less like a newbie and more at home there.

Another "benefit" is being able to actually help people in a measurable way. Today I helped one client with his CV. He's really got a lot of skills and there should be no reason why he can't find a job. I couldn't help but feel good when we finished working on the CV and he had this satisfied look on his face. I think it really helped his confidence, which is really what it comes down to in the job search.

When I woke up this morning, I prayed to Jesus to help me to bring him to the clients I worked with today, as well as to help me to see Christ in them. After work I headed to the Cathedral for mass, where I said a big prayer for prayers answered. It really was a great day.

Of course then there was horrible traffic and my 40 minute bus ride took an hour and 40 minutes. And then I spent 2 hours on the phone with help desk staff in India trying to fix a computer problem for the Sisters here, which in the end was successful.

But even with all that, it was a great day. I think it all comes back to being able to be present to someone else in a helpful way. Such gift when you come right down to it!

It's nice to know that no matter where you go in the world, tech support is always in India. :)

I have a question that I have been pondering and curious about...are the CSJPs in any way related to or an offshoot of the C/SSJs?

kelly - no, other than having the name in common.

We were founded in 1884 in Nottingham, England by Margaret Anna Cusack. Our original name was St Joseph's Sisters of Peace of the Immaculate Conception. In the early years this was shortened to Sisters of St Joseph of Peace. In the 20's Rome changed our name to Sisters of St Joseph of Newark, as our motherhouse was in that diocese. This made it seem like we were part of the CSJ or SSJ family - which we're not.

After Vatican II when all congregations were directed to return to their roots, we rediscovered our founding story and changed our name back to Sisters of St Joseph of Peace.

That said, we are all really cousins if you think about it! :)
