adventures in travel

Hello all. I'm back from my weekend in DC. I had a great visit with my Dad. We even managed (for the most part) to stay cool in the 1,000 degree weather. That may be an exaggeration, but not by much!

I took the MegaBus to DC. It was cheap, and aside from delays mostly due to traffic, I'd recommend it as a good budget way to travel.

Much better than the cab I took from my friend's house (where I was staying) to my Dad's this morning .... he actually ran out of gas about 1/2 a mile away from where he picked me up. The good thing was, the cab driver had more gas in the trunk, so we pulled over while he filled up.

I also wonder if I look trustworthy, or if I look like I know what I'm doing/where I'm going, or a combination thereof. Why? You may recall that while in London last fall, I was constantly asked for directions. Well, this afternoon as I waited for the MegaBus back to New York (which was late because of traffic), a mother who had to get back to work asked me to give her a call when her teenage daughter and I got on the bus. (As an aside, it turned out they live in Bowie, MD where I grew up!). Then, when we got to New York I ended up escorting an elderly lady on the subway to the Port Authority so she could catch her connecting bus to Buffalo. Of course I then ended up missing my connecting bus home to the novitiate, but I just had to wait an hour for another one.

Adventures in travel ....

More later, but for now, peace!

Hey, I'm going to DC again in September and taking one day of vacation to see the sites. What are some of your favorites? Favorite restaurants? I went in May 2007 to the Holocaust Museum, Spy Museum, Native American Museum, the Modern Art Museum (I think it starts with an H), and the Sewell-Belmont House.

hey! snap!
I just had adventures in travel myself! Finally got back to melbourne after an exhausting two weeks in Sydney for world youth day and had an hilarious and very anxious time getting groups of international pilgrims to connecting flights.
Part of me really wanted to be home in bed (I was SO close now I was back in the right state!) and yet getting those journeying further and harder on their way was more important. Sometimes it's just nice to be nice =)

Turtle Lady - I haven' done touristy stuff in DC in ages. It's been all about the family for quite a while. What I do know is that the City has CHANGED! It's all fancy and clean now. Very strange.

You hit some of my favorites. I also love the National Gallery of Art - an oldie but goodie. Both wings are good, but I love the modern art wing.

Sarah - yes, sometimes I suppose it is nice to be nice!
