"She who bumps into things"

Today is the feast day of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. According to the webpage for National Kateri Shrine, she was named "Tekakwitha" because she had poor eye sight, and Tekakwitha means "she who bumps into things." I've always had a fondness for Kateri Tekakwitha. As another she who bumps into things - because of sheer klutziness rather than poor eyesight - this is just another reason for our connection! :)

According to this website, she's also the patroness of ecology & the environment. Again, something I didn't know!

"Kateri was a child of nature. Her sainthood will raise the minds and hearts of those who love nature and work in ecology."
--Bishop Stanislaus Brzana, Bishop of Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Prayer for the Canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekawitha: O God who, among the many marvels of Your Grace in the New World, did cause to blossom on the banks of the Mohawk and of the St. Lawrence, the pure and tender Lily, Kateri Tekakwitha, grant we beseech You, the favor we beg through her intercession; that this Young Lover of Jesus and of His Cross may soon be counted among her Saints by Holy Mother Church, and that our hearts may be enkindled with a stronger desire to imitate her innocence and faith. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

That's a great insight. I was talking to a friend last night who admitted she had to get reading glasses and I was teasing her about it. Now I'll just have to tell her that Kateri Tekakwitha is her patron saint.
