Do you live in the Seattle, Portland or Spokane areas? Do you know about human trafficking--modern day slavery? Would you like to learn more about what you can do to help stop the demand for the trafficking of human beings?
One of the projects I've been working on at IPJC is helping to plan three evenings on Human Trafficking. Our first event is this Thursday night, October 23 from 7 to 9pm at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Center in Burien (Southwest of Seattle). It is free and open to the public. I'd love to meet you there!
The first hour will feature a wonderful speaker - Rani Hong. Rani is herself a survivor of human trafficking. She and her husband (who had been trafficked himself as a child soldier) started the Tronie Foundation to provide restoration to survivors of trafficking. She is an inspirational speaker ... you can watch video of her appearance on the Oprah show on the Tronie Foundation website. We will also have some basic education about human trafficking and introduce the Stop the Demand Campaign. The second hour will move us to action. We'll have resources and conversation about what we can do in our own community to end the sale of women, men and children.
Our Portland event is November 6 at Providence Portland Medical Center Social Room - also from 7 to 9pm. Our Spokane event is November 12 at St Aloysius parish - again, from 7 to 9pm.
Details are on the IPJC website.

I really wish they were having this closer to downtown. Burien is too hard to get to and from, at least if you don't have a car.
Garpu - I tried to leave a comment earlier this week in response but blogger was acting funny.
It's always hard to pick where to have an event like this. We had it in Burien so that people from Tacoma would be able to attend, but then that leaves out people without a car from Seattle. Sorry about that.
By the way, we still need to figure out a time to meet in the real world!
