Humorous Side of Holiness

Today is the feast day of St Philip Neri. I love St Philip Neri because A) my Paulist Parish is named after him and B) he really helps us to remember that having fun and following Jesus Christ are not mutually exclusive. In fact they go hand in hand!

To learn more about him, check out the blurbs on

American Catholic

Also, if you have a copy of Edwina Gately & Robert Lentz's Christ in the Margins turn to the chapter on Holy Fools. There's a beautiful icon of St Philip Neri by Robert Lentz and a hilarious story about St Philip Neri and a dog.

I'm borrowing this prayer from the Saints & Angels site:

Saint Philip Neri, we take ourselves far too seriously most of the time. Help us to add humor to our perspective -- remembering always that humor is a gift from God. Amen
