how we do not know

This morning the man from Nazareth said to me:

"This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know." (Mark 4: 26-27)

Yup. That about sums it up. The trick is, not only do we not know how it grows, often times we can’t see it growing. So easy to give up. Or to overdo it, not give the seed the time it needs to sprout or grow. Or perhaps we don't plant the seeds, because we can't imagine how we could ever have enough of an impact on the world for it to make a difference.

But we do. We can. How, we do not know. Do we need to know how, or is that where the little bit about faith comes in?

My morning thoughts. Happy Friday everyone!

I thought about that one yesterday too. How easy it is for us to become attached to the results of our efforts! We think that if we don't see an outcome in a timely manner, then we're not being effective. That's sad and unfortunate because that sort of negative view can lead to discouragment and keep us from continuing God's work.

Thanks Steve. And I agree, it is sad.

Good thing God is persistent with us!
