Portland Human Trafficking Event

If you are in the Portland area, why not stop by the Providence Portland Medical Center Social Room tomorrow night (Thursday, November 6 at 7pm) to meet me and learn more about human trafficking?

This is the second installment in the Intercommunity Peace & Justice Center's three city "regional tour" - next week we head to Spokane.

The first hour will feature a wonderful speaker - Rani Hong. Rani is herself a survivor of human trafficking. She and her husband (who had been trafficked himself as a child soldier) started the Tronie Foundation to provide restoration to survivors of trafficking. She is an inspirational speaker ... you can watch video of her appearance on the Oprah show on the Tronie Foundation website. We will also have some basic education about human trafficking and introduce the Stop the Demand Campaign. The second hour will move us to action. We'll have resources and conversation about what we creative ways we can come together as a community to end the sale of women, men and children.

You might also want to read this article about human trafficking in today's Willamette Week - so happy to be quoted by Willy Week and NOT be rogue of the week! :)

What: Free Human Trafficking Workshop
When: Thursday, November 6 from 7 to 9pm
Where: Providence Portland Medical Center Social Room (NE 48th & Glisan)

Thanks for featuring the Tronie Foundation in your blog, Susan Rose--I hadn't heard of them yet! It's so encouraging to hear about all of the people who are dedicating their lives to addressing the issue of human trafficking. I'll be paying much closer attention to Stop the Demand from here on out.
