I spent the day at the Art Institute of Chicago. It's been about 9 years since I was there ... they've built a new wing! I also discovered a new to me painting by Maurce Denis, Easter Mystery. It's the story of the three women going to the tomb after Easter Sunday. If you look in the middle of the picture, you'll see my favorite part is the disembodied hand offering the Eucharist to the white robed folks. Very interesting!

This picture reminds me very much of one of my own favourites, 'The Resurrection, Cookham', painted about 30 years later by the British artist Sir Stanley Spencer (1891-1959) and on display at Tate, London. Spencer painted the churchyard of his home town of Cookham as the setting for the resurrection of the dead. You'll see the painting here: http://www.tate.org.uk/servlet/ViewWork?workid=13675
